The Debt Respite Scheme (Breathing Space) is due to come into force on 4 May [Star Wars Day!]. The scheme aims to give breathing space (60 days) to those experiencing debt problems. Where the debtor is experiencing mental health issues the respite can be longer.
While a breathing space is in effect the regulations require creditors to stop contacting the debtor to request payment of debts and to stop any enforcement action.
Further guidance for creditors can be found here.
